Why You'll Love This Smoothie
I love making homemade smoothies as a way to wake up in the mornings feeling energized and refreshed, or as a mid-day snack when I'm short on time. A smoothie is my favourite way to efficiently fit in a big, heaping serving of fruits and vegetables into my day-to-day while treating myself to something refreshing and delicious.
Why do I love this Tropical Breeze Smoothie so much?
- Sneaks in my veggies - I always try to sneak in a healthy serving of vegetables in my smoothies, and this tropical blend does a great job of masking the taste of any vegetables.
- Nutrient-dense - loaded with vitamins and other nutrients from the fruits, veggies, and ground flax, you can also feel free to add in any boosters you like based on your specific nutritional needs.
- No added sugars - the fruits in this smoothie offer just enough natural sweetness on their own without the need to add any additional sweeteners, unlike many store-bought smoothies out there that are often loaded with added sugar.
- So delicious - you'll absolutely love the taste of this one, trust me!

My Easy Smoothie Formula
I make all my smoothies following my easy-to-follow 5-step formula that yields consistent results every time - producing healthy, tasty, and balanced smoothies. If you want to learn how to adapt this method to easily build your own smoothies at home (and which I've used for this Tropical Breeze Smoothie recipe), check out my 5-step smoothie formula here.
Ingredients
Please see the recipe card below for exact quantities.

- Light coconut milk - you can use any milk of your choice, but I find canned light coconut milk to be the perfect tropical base for this recipe.
- Mango, pineapple, peaches - I'm going to lump our tropical fruit blend into one line here. I like blending all 3 of these fruits, but feel free to use 1 or 2 if you'd like (just keep the total fruit quantity the same). Fresh and/or frozen chunks both work (I prefer frozen to help chill and thicken our smoothie) - just make sure they are ripened!
- Carrots - not only super nutritious but also enhances the nice bright sunny colour of our smoothie.
- Zucchini - time to fit some greens into this smoothie! I like zucchini for its relatively milder taste (at least when it comes to vegetables) that blend well with the tropical fruits.
- Banana - I suggest using frozen bananas, which will act as both or natural sweetener and smoothie thickener for a deliciously creamy texture.
- Lemon juice - for a bright, zesty pop of citrus.
- Vanilla extract - for a delicious pop of vanilla flavour.
- Ground flax seeds - let's boost our smoothie with some heart-friendly healthy fats.
Instructions

STEP 1: Prepare your ingredients (wash, peel, chop) and then add them into the blender.

STEP 2: Blend ingredients thoroughly until smooth. Pour and enjoy!

Toasty's Tips
- Use frozen bananas - instead of fresh bananas, opt for frozen ripe bananas. I freeze a container full of frozen bananas to have on-hand all the time for convenience - they're also great for homemade ice cream!
- Add nutritional boosters - I'm using ground flax for a nutritional boost, but use whatever you like! The great thing about smoothies is how customizable they are - so use other types of seeds, supplement powders, superfoods, etc. based on your nutritional needs.
- When adding ingredients, make sure the wet ingredients are added so they're closest to the blender blade - then add the dry ingredients. This will ensure a smooth and even blending process.
- Don't use a wimpy blender. Use a high-powered blender to avoid ending up with chunky ingredients that don't fully blend. This helps ensure smooth, consistent results every time.
What Type of Blender Should I Use?
Back when I first started making smoothies, I used to use an older, slower blender that often produced inconsistent results with chunky, half-blended ingredients. After switching to a high-powered blender (a Nutribullet Pro 900), my smoothies became so much more consistently smooth. I highly recommend investing in a high-speed blender, especially if using frozen fruits and vegetables - it's well worth it. I now use a Vitamix A3500 as my daily driver, but there are many affordable options out there (such as the Nutribullet). Trust me, it'll make your smoothies just that much smoother.

Can I Refrigerate My Smoothie?
I would recommend drinking your smoothie right after blending to ensure it maintains optimal nutrition, flavour, texture, and freshness. Unfortunately, smoothies don't have a very long shelf-life after blending and typically only last about a day or two tops in the fridge (if using an air-tight sealed container like a mason jar).
Meal Prep Tips for Smoothies
Instead of refrigerating, you can try freezing your smoothies - which make them fantastic for meal prep! Smoothies can stay fresh in the freezer for up to a month, or sometimes longer. Here are a few helpful tips on how to meal prep in advance with smoothies:
- Ice cube tray - blend and freeze your smoothie in an ice cube tray. This makes them easy to pop out and either thaw or blend quickly whenever you're ready to enjoy them!
- Freezer jars - Freeze your smoothie in a mason jar (or other air-tight container), and then thaw it in the fridge for 2-3 hours whenever you're ready to enjoy it.
- Portion and freeze ingredients - chop up the fruits and vegetables and store them in a zip-lock bag in the freezer. This allows you to quickly throw the frozen ingredients into a blender along with the liquids and boosters whenever you're ready to enjoy it.
