Ingredients
Please see recipe card below for exact quantities.
- Ripened bananas – naturally sweet and moist, acting as both the base of our brownies and natural sweetener. Make sure to use browned or spotted bananas - the browner they are, the sweeter (and more ideal) they'll be for this recipe!
- Nut butter – any nut or seed butter (like peanut, almond, or sunflower) to add creaminess and healthy fats to our brownies.
- Cocoa powder – I use unsweetened cocoa powder, which gives us our rich, deep chocolate flavour.
- Chocolate chips (optional) - for extra indulgence and melty chocolate pockets.

Instructions

STEP 1: Grab 3 large ripened bananas and mash them onto a plate or bowl until they turn into a smooth puree.

STEP 2: In a large mixing bowl, add mashed banana, cocoa powder, and nut butter. Mix until well combined.

STEP 3 (Optional): Add chocolate chips into the batter and stir until they're well distributed.

STEP 4: Lightly grease or line an 8x8" baking tray with parchment paper. Pour batter into baking tray, spreading it out evenly. Top it off with extra chocolate chips if you'd like!

STEP 5: Bake in a pre-heated oven at 350°F/177°C for 18-20 minutes or until cooked through.

STEP 6: When done baking, take it out and check for doneness with a toothpick. If it comes out clean, it's ready to eat. Otherwise bake again for an extra 2 minutes. Let the brownies sit out and cool down for 30 minutes to let it settle and firm up.

STEP 7: Slice brownies up into squares, and enjoy!

Storage
You can store these brownies away in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 5 days, or in the freezer for up to 3 months. Just thaw them in the fridge, or heat them up whenever you're ready to enjoy them!

Toasty's Tips
- Use overripe bananas - the more ripened the bananas are, the sweeter and more flavourful your brownies will be. So use the most browned and spotted bananas you can find!
- Soften up the nut butter - if you find that your nut butter is too solid and difficult to mix with, simply warm it up in the microwave for 30-40 seconds to soften it up first before stirring it in! It'll make it much easier.
- Let the brownies cool - make sure to let the brownies cool and chill after baking for at least 30 minutes! This is important to let the brownies settle and firm up, giving you that classic brownie texture. I know it'll be hard to resist, but make sure not to skip this step!
- Add some chocolate chips - I love adding in some chocolate chips, either as a mix-in directly into the batter, or as a topping sprinkled on top of the batter before baking. This gives the brownies an extra bit of sweetness and fudginess in every bite!
